A LIFE WELL LIVED
The sun rose on Barbara Ann Trotter on October 13th, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Mr. and Mrs. Ulysses and Flossie Trotter. Barbara was the 7th out of 11 children. At a young age, Barbara had a love for hairstyling and listening to music. Her hair was always laid, and she had more vinyl albums than you could imagine.
During her early years as a graduate of Crispus Attucks High School, Barbara held various jobs before giving birth to Yvette Moore in 1962, and Felicia Moore in 1963. Barbara later married Ralph Miller Jr in 1969, and the family relocated to Los Angeles, California, in 1971. Two years later, in 1973, Barbara welcomed her third child, Ralph Miller III.
Barbara was a loving wife and the best mother that anyone could ever ask for. Her heart was pure as gold, and it showed through her willingness to open up her home on many occasions to those needing to get back on their feet. Barbara, known for being sweet yet firm, would say, “I’ll help you get back on your feet, but only if you make an effort to get back on your feet. This is not a flophouse.”
Barbara was a wizard in the kitchen. No matter how many people were in the house, she would cook enough to feed an army. If you were hungry, it was your own fault. Barbara also enjoyed family time, engaging in activities such as going to the local drive-in theater, watching sports (NFL, NBA, and college basketball during March Madness), card games, board games, and video games. She spent countless hours with her sister Mable playing card games such as Spades, Bid Whist, and Dad. If you were Barbara’s spades partner, you had to know the game strategically well. Otherwise, you would get the famous “Trotter eyebrow raise”, as a way of showing her annoyance of you making a big mistake. Shortly after, she would say “It’s okay baby. We’ll get ‘em next hand.”
In her free time, Barbara pursued painting, bowling, jigsaw puzzles, and watching her stories, particularly “The Young and the Restless”. Eavesdropping on a conversation between Barbara and her sister Elizabeth left you wondering who Victor, Paul, Nikki, and Miss Chancellor were.
Barbara grew a passion for electronics when she was hired by Hughes Aircraft. From 1989 to 1999, she worked as an electrical technician for Hughes Aircraft, and McDonald Douglas/Boeing. In 1991, Barbara received praise and admiration for her team’s contribution to the assembly of the C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft while at McDonald Douglas/Boeing.
Barbara always had aspirations to become a grandmother before she was “too old”, and she certainly made it known. Just a year after her career as an electrical technician, she welcomed five grandchildren in 11 years, whom she adored and cherished immensely until her passing on July 25th, 2024.
