We celebrate the life of: “Edward Lamont Keemp”, born on February 2, 1943, in Lake Providence, Louisiana, to Ivory Mae Keemp Cage and Eddie Allen. He was the middle child of seven siblings and was raised by his step-father, Charlie Cage. Edward accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior early in life. He was baptized by the late Reverend W.L. Kent of the Central Baptist #1 Church. Ed received his education from the Louisiana School System of East Carroll Parish in Lake Providence, LA. He graduated from G.W. Griffin High School with Honors and a Scholarship to attend college as an elite and extraordinary basketball player.
Edward attended Natchez Junior College and Lincoln University. Edward met and married Janice Alemon. Two children were born to this union, Kathy and Edward Jr. When this union ended, he continued to live in Las Vegas until he was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War. He served in the military with his brother, Sam Keemp who was also in Vietnam at the same time.
Edward later met and married Tia Tomlin with whom he had one child, Ashley and one step daughter Tanesha. Edward worked various jobs: Coaching, played in a Semi Pro Basketball League; Chef, and, a Dealer at the MGM Grand. He later worked at the Las Vegas Club as a Casino Manager. When the Fremont Street Experience was built, he was in charge of three casinos. Many of you know this, because he would often comp meals and rooms for family and friends.
Edward was a very cool and outgoing person. He was a sharp dresser, made many friends and had an amazing sense of humor. He could make you laugh on your saddest day. Edward was a devoted church goer until his health declined. He loved traveling with his family and his sisters, Martha and Annie Mae. Family gatherings were important to him, because it gave him an opportunity to bring family and friends together. It also gave him a chance to show off his cooking skills, because he thought he was the best chef in the family.
