Gloria Jean Ayler ""Tunnie"

June 30, 1946 — June 10, 2024

We honor and celebrate the Inspiring Life of GLORIA JEAN AYLER "TUNNIE". Tunnie will be cherished and remembered through the legacy of her family and friends.

A LIFE WELL LIVED

Gloria Jean Ayler (Tunnie), was the fifth oldest of eight children, she was born on June 30, 1946, to the late Frank Boggon and Estella Boggon in Detroit, Michigan. Tunnie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized as a child. She later joined New St. Mark Baptist Church in Detroit, MI. in 1979.

She attended Detroit public schools and later continued her education and received her associated degree in Business at Dorsey Business School. Tunnie also attended modeling school where she modeled with several different modeling agencies and fashion shows throughout the city of Detroit.

Tunnie was the rock of her family she gave her mother one of her kidneys in 1971 and raised her three youngest siblings along with her children. She began her career with Sears Roebuck & Co. as a Sales Associate for many years. Tunnie found her home with Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, Romulus, MI., as a Landside Service Agent where she retired from in 2009. Tunnie than moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2014 to be closer to her daughter and son and to enjoy retirement life.

Tunnie loved the Lord she made sure that her children attended church every Sunday when they were kids growing up. She loved cooking, playing bid whist, listening to music, dancing and enjoying her family and friends. There was always a family gathering or party on Washburn. Tunnie loved her family and always had an open door for any and everyone.

If she was not cooking her famous hot tamales and chicken and dumplings she was playing bid whist and listening to her favorite artist Aretha Franklin, Teddy Pendergrass, Al Green and Johnny Taylor just to name a few. Every holiday or any occasion it did not have to be anything special, but she always made it special for the ones she loved. Even after her three hip replacements and battling stage four bone cancer she was still shaking, grooving and dancing to her favorite music.

Tunnie married Willie Ayler in 1995 who preceded her in death. Later Tunnie met the love of her life James Coats, who loved him some Gloria he would drive 3 days just about every month from Como, Mississippi to Las Vegas, NV to spend time with his love Gloria.

Gloria departed this life on Monday, June 10, 2024. Tunnie is preceded in death by her beloved son Kevin Boggan.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her two beautiful daughters: Tawuana Carroll (John) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Tahesha Anderson (Phil) of Detroit, Michigan; four grandchildren: Marisa O’Dell (Brian), Devin Boggan (Veronica), Durrell Hill, and Dajsia Boggan; five great grandchildren: Bryson O’Dell, Athena O’Dell, Evin Boggan, Elvin Boggan and Brandon O’Dell; her partner and love James Coats of Como, Mississippi; her two sisters: Geraldine Shorts of Detroit, Michigan, and Darlene Moore of Detroit, Michigan; her brother Clifford Boggan of Detroit, Michigan; her daughter-in-law Juanita Boggan; her lovely niece Angela Ferguson and cousin Tranetta Redmond; her handsome nephew William Moore Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and relatives.
