January 21, 1960 – May 25, 2021
Gregory “Randy” Starks was born in Orlando, Florida on Thursday, January 21, 1960, to the union of James E. “Speed” and Mary Ann Starks (McClendon). As their only child, James “Speed” and Mary Ann were very proud parents. With father, James, an airman in the USAF, Randy’s early childhood years were spent on several military bases in and outside of the US, most notably Japan. As an anecdote of their time in Japan, Mom, Mary Ann, always fondly referred to him as her “#1 son”.
With the family finally settling down in Las Vegas, NV, Randy attended Eldorado High School and was a graduate of the “Eldog” class of 1978. In High School, Randy was an outstanding performer in football and a Sounds of the Sun Musician where he played the saxophone. His classmates nicknamed him “the Legend”. Randy always carried the “maroon and gold” deep in his heart. After High School, Randy briefly attended Clark County Community College, but shortly after enlisted in the US Navy. Randy loved being in the Navy because it enabled him to travel to many places, best of all his tour in Italy! His post Navy career included Centel/Sprint Telephone Company for over 10 years as a Customer Service Representative; he also carried a CDL Driver’s License and drove the “big rigs” locally and interstate for a period of time. Over the course of his lifetime, his many hobbies included photography, music, travel, electronic gadgets, camping, journaling, and creating vision boards for various entrepreneurial adventures and opportunities.
Randy met Cassie Cherry of Victorville, CA and they married in December 1990. On August 11, 1997, they welcomed their baby boy and became proud parents of their only son Malik X. Starks.
Randy made his transition to heaven on May 25th , 2021.
