A LIFE WELL LIVED
John Louis Philippus, 81, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 16th, 2023, at Desert View Senior Living. He was born in Denver, Colorado on November 7, 1941, one of two children to the late Louis and Edna (Noffsinger) Philippus. He was a graduate of West High School in Denver, Colorado and Colorado School of Mines (1965.) After college, he enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1965 – 1968 and was stationed primarily in Alaska working on helicopter avionics. After his time in the U.S. Army, he pursued a career as a mining engineer that took him to several different locations across the United States, from Alaska, to Colorado and Pennsylvania to New Mexico, ultimately settling down in Las Vegas in 1985.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Karla Watson Philippus, 2 sons, 1 daughter-in-law, 2 grandchildren, and his older sister Joan Patterson. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, golf, and spending time with his grandchildren.
A memorial service IS planned for Saturday, July 8th, at 11:00 AM at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Webb Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89134.
