A LIFE LIVED WELL

Katie Mae Millner Baity, was born January 18, 1938, in Mount Holly, Arkansas and later grew up and raised in Overton, Texas. She was the fifth of six children born to Robert Millner Sr. & Fannie Mae Small Millner. After the death of Robert Millner Sr., Mrs. Fannie Mae Small Millner later met and married Mr. Tilton Sanford (deceased) and to this union was born two daughters. Katie was four eleven in height and would often say, “I’m a small piece of leather well put together.” Spiritual Journey – As a young child Katie attended First Baptist Church in Overton, Texas. Her family later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where they attended Greater Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Prentiss S. Walker where Katie served as the choir director. In December 1999, Katie rededicated her life to Jesus Christ and joined Visions of Faith Ministries under the leadership of her nephew, Pastor Edward P. Millner. Visions of Faith Ministries. She was affectionately known as “Mother Baity and Katie Baity, the hard-working lady.”

Katie understood Colossians 3:16 & 17 which reads, “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Katie knew that she was called to serve.

Her faithful service included serving on the Purchasing Committee, as an Outreach Volunteer, Church Van Driver, a Bible Study Teacher, a Sunday School Teacher, the Financial Secretary, an avid Bus Stop Witness. She also served as president of the Sewing Circle. Her sewing projects included robes for the pastor, robes for the choir, pulpit scarves, as well as praise dance skirts; all using her own handmade patterns and three sewing machines. Before Katie received her wings she served proudly as the Church Mother.

Her Legacy – Katie met and married Charles Edward Baity, in 1955 and to this amazing union was born two amazing children Darwin Demetrius (who proceeded her in death) and Diana Marie “Donna”. Katie lived in Los Angeles California with her friend “Billy” raising her two children while working part-time. She loved entertaining out-of-state guest, taking them to the beach and to various amusement parks, Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo, Marine Land and Sea World, just to name a few. Katie moved back to Las Vegas in 1972 where she worked in the laundry field for several years and was known for shirt pressing techniques. She also worked as a head cook at her eldest brother’s restaurant “Baby Bugs Café,” and was known for her Ice Box Lemon Meringue Pies as well as her skills in not breaking the egg yolk when she flipped eggs. Katie held various other positions including being a School Aid for the Clark County School District, Tray Worker, and Diet Tech at Valley Hospital, as well as a caregiver. Katie’s most notable accomplishment was being one of Tupperware’s top sales ladies. Later in life, Katie loved going to the Nevada Senior Services Daycare where she was called “Boss Lady” and “Bingo Queen” even winning a bingo queen trophy. She loved riding RTC’s Paratransit bus because she could ride all over town and tell the bus drivers which way to go. It did not bother her if the bus ride home was 1 to 2 hours long, she just loved riding and looking. The things Katie enjoyed most were attending church services, bowling, going to the Adult Daycare Center, visiting her family, traveling, putting together jigsaw puzzles, doing word search books, playing bingo, eating peppermints and belly bears cinnamon graham crackers.
