Nathaniel Williams

March 20, 1937 — December 9, 2024

We honor and celebrate the Inspiring Life of NATHANIEL WILLIAMS. Nathaniel will be cherished and remembered thru the legacy of his family and friends.

Nathaniel Williams was born on March 20, 1937 to the union of Gladys Tucker and George Horice Williams in Tallulah, Louisiana. During his younger years, Nathaniel was raised by his grandmother, Ida Tucker. Nathaniel received his early education in Thomas Town, near Fortune Fork, Louisiana. He later left Fortune Fork with his parents and siblings and moved to Pittsburg, California where he completed his education. In 1950, his stepfather, Minister James Proby, received his calling to preach in Las Vegas, Nevada. The family left California and moved to Las Vegas. After moving to Las Vegas, Nathaniel began working in the hotel industry and later in the construction industry where he retired. Nathaniel was a member of Carver Missionary Baptist Church where he accepted Christ. He later moved his membership to Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Nathaniel Whitney, now pastored by Dr. Welton T. Smith, III. Through the friendship with his mother, along with his prayers & worshiping at Greater Evergreen, a divine meeting with his now wife, Betty, occurred. After marrying Betty on December 25, 1981, they became a family and from this union seven children and one adopted child was formed. At Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, Nathaniel served as an active member on many auxiliaries: usher ministry, church cook, deacon board and community mission ministry. Nathaniel was instrumental in providing countless meals and dinners for church outings, guest churches, revivals and repasts. Nathaniel served faithfully on the Deacon Board and Community Mission Ministry until his health began to decline. Nathaniel was a very good dancer on dance floors, which earned him the nickname “Jit”. He met many people during the “Jit” days who later became family. He later danced for Jesus with the permission of Dr. Welton T. Smith, III. Nathaniel is preceded in eternal life by his parents, George H. Williams and James & Gladys Proby; brothers and sisters: Paul, George Jr., Edward Otis, Lily L. Proby, Mary Proby, Johnny Proby and Woody Williams. Nathaniel leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 42 years, Betty; daughters, Rebecca, Cecelia and Tabitha; sons, Tommie, Don (Eulonda), Nathaniel Jr. (Debra), Dwayne ( Ruby) and Jason; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, God children, nieces, nephews and friends who are now family. All held him in the highest regards and loved him dearly.
